Time to Go Home

Sunday morning, I headed out for one more run along the riverside trail. I am not going to miss this heat...

We enjoyed one last breakfast at the hotel. I am going to miss the coffee...

After breakfast, we headed toward the river. We passed Kasol along the way (he seems to hang out and hope for rides at the same street corner) and said our goodbyes to him. And then we made it to the river and walked around a bit. Anything to stretch our legs before a long travel day!

About 11:30am, we left for the brand-new Phnom Penh airport. It's literally the most beautiful airport I've ever seen (it opened in October) and it was absolutely empty. Like -- no airplanes, no people (practically speaking). 

We grabbed a Cambodian lunch (well, Taylor got Starbucks) and moved along to our gate. We fly first to Singapore and then on to LA. It's going to be a loooooooong day.

She found the one Starbucks at the Phnom Penh airport. And she's very happy.

Our flight to Siem Reap, Cambodia was a breeze. Two hours in the air felt like nothing! I watched "Ted Lasso" the entire time. I get it now. I understand the hype. Officially obsessed. (Believe, always.) When we arrived in Siem Reap, we had to purchase visas at the airport, which was a very confusing process. With visas in hand, we then waited in a long line with lots of other tourists to get through immigration. We made it out on the other side and quickly found our driver, named Nol. We piled our bags into Nol's van and then hit the road for the 45-minute drive into Siem Reap. Well, it was supposed to be 45 minutes. Our drive ended up being about 70 minutes...there was just a ton of traffic. Also, about 10 minutes into our drive, it quickly became apparent that there are no road rules here. Singapore Airlines Awaits

Hello from LAX! Our family is sitting at our Singapore Airlines gate, waiting to board. We have a looooong flight to Singapore, followed by about a seven-hour layover there, and then another much shorter flight to Siem Reap, Cambodia. We're in Cambodia through November 30 -- and we are super excited about it.  We first started planning this trip six/seven (IYKYK) months ago. And by we, I mean Tim. Tim planned this whole thing. He plans all our trips and gets all the credit. I just show up, bring some snacks, and write the blog. On the rainy drive up to LAX tonight, I asked everyone what they're most excited about in Cambodia: Wyatt: "I'm excited about fishing, snorkeling, and eating spiders." [Yep. Sounds about right.] Taylor: "I'm excited about horseback riding and tanning." [She's 14. This checks out. A Day in Singapore

Our flight from LA to Singapore took about 17 hours. It was a long one. We slept, ate a couple meals, watched some shows and movies, read, and talked. The time moved along just fine, but we're all glad the return flight to LA will be a bit shorter. We were also in the dark for a long time. We left our home in Orange County in the dark, left LAX in the dark, and flew all night in the dark. We arrived in Singapore around 7:30am; the sun had only recently come up. It felt SO good to get off the plane. Once inside the Singapore airport, we found baggage storage and dropped our bags. The kind man at the storage counter informed us that we'd be flying out of Terminal 2 later, and that we'd have to pick up our bags at his storage locker in Terminal 1 and then make our way to Terminal 2. He offered that we could place our bags in storage in Terminal 2, but it was more of a hassle because Terminal 2 has to open all of the bags, inspect what's in there, etc, etc. So, we decided t...
